The South Carolina Air National Guard lost two Lockheed Martin F-16C aircraft belonging to the 169th Fighter Wing that collided during a night training flight. Both pilots ejected successfully. The aircraft landed in a wooded unpopulated area near Jefferson County, Georgia.
This is another loss in relatively short order for some of the U.S. Air Force. The Americans lost one F-16C and one F/A-18 (pilot killed) belonging to aerobatic groups on June 2. Then in May, there was the collision of two F/A-18F, the crash of a Harrier II, and last but not least the loss of a B-52.
