Hello,

I'm asking for your help. I am interested in the air combat, in the area of Detva-Zvolen, of the Romanian pilot Captain Constantin Cantacuzin and his wingman Adjutant Traian Dârjan from the unit Grupul 9 vânătoare. For a better understanding, I will briefly describe what happened.

At 14:00 the pair took off from the Lucenci airport. Over Zvolen they discovered a group of Fw-190s. Cantacuzino shot down one machine(the pilot of the machine Hermann Heim from SG 2). During the search for the wreckage they were attacked by fighters from JG 53. During a brief dogfight, Hauptmann Helmut Lipfert shot down Adjutant Traian Dârjan. Captain Constantin Cantacuzino followed him to the ground a short time later.

My questions:
Where can I find some information about Hermann Heim(biography)?
Who shot down Captain Constantin Cantacuzino? (or advice on a website)
Who was Rudolf Carrot? (Lipfert refers to him in his memoirs as a battle group commander.)

And my last posba: If you have any web site, forum, know of a book or anything else where I can find out more information, find photos about these pilots and their units, please post. For any answer I will be grateful.

Some information was e.g. published here: kronika-airwarsk.blogspot.sk
or here: naszvolen.sme.sk
Heim was also written about by Mr. Suja in the same newspaper with a photo.
These events have been reviewed several times on Romanian forums, e.g. about Heim:www.worldwar2.ro
Info about Traian: http://www.worldwar2.ro/arr/?article=692
About Cantacuzin: http://www.worldwar2.ro/arr/?article=683

Why are you interested in this particular story?

Thank you for the information.

I would like to ask you, if possible, if you could send me a photo of Heim, possibly from the collection of his remains.
My computer won't show me some of the photos.
Do you know if Mr. Boris Soudny has published any biography about Heim?
Are there still any memoirists around?
If so: detvan1945@gmail.com

And why am I interested? A friend of mine outlined it to me - his father said that a few years ago a plane wreck was found near Detva. I've been looking for any clues ever since. Otherwise, I'm from Detva too.

One more question occurred to me: Do you know any collectors(Probably mainly in SR.) who might have some parts from the three machines mentioned above.

Rudolf Mrkva, born. 1.12.1915 in Vienna. He did not attend the pilot course even before the beginning of the war as a civilian. After joining the Luftwaffe he became a flying instructor. In November 1942 he joined 3/StG 2 in the rank of fw. From March 1, 1943 as Lt. to the second squadron, which he commanded from July. 1.4.1944 oblt.,1.7.1944 hpt.-and now attention-after the death of Maj. Dr. Otte on 24.3.1944 he became acting commander of III/SG 2.(renamed from StG to SG in autumn 1943) But even that Otte was not a proper commander-at the time of his death commanded III/SG 2 Rudel and from 22.1.1945 to the end of the war mjr. Müller. RK got 20.7.1944 after 660 combat flights. Anyway, the dislocation doesn't fit me here,on this site a completely different base is given for III/SG 2 at the incriminated time. Only for I/SG 2 the base Nový Dvor is mentioned, which is the Piešt'any airfield, but only for a few days at the turn of March/April 1945. So I think- Mrkva probably commanded there only some detached unit, maybe a squadron, which Lipfert mistakenly called a group. One explanation I can think of- III/SG 2 was the only SG2 group still partially armed with Ju-87s at the end of the war, so part of the group with the stukas was operating elsewhere and the other part with FW-190s from Piešt'any. Carrot lived to see the end of the war, completing a total of 896 combat sorties. Source: Georg Brüttig, German Aces on Dive Bombers, Mustang,ed.Pilot, 1995.
