The 7.92x33 mm competition for a new infantry weapon of calibre 7.92x33 mm was also attended by Mauser, but by the competition deadline of 1 July 1942 the team of chief designer Altenburger was unable to prepare a working prototype. This was not completed until 12/1942 and the prototype was tested in 1/1943. The corporate designation of the weapon was "06 H." The weapon had a locked breech, and the automatic worked on the function of extracting the gases produced when the gun was fired. Gun testing went well, except for a hitch during prolonged firing. This was solved by rifling of the cartridge chamber (the cartridge case was jamming in the chamber due to uneven pressure in and around the cartridge case). An interesting finding was that the gun continued to function after the gas piston was removed. This allowed the designers to eliminate the gas piston and thus make the gun and its production simpler and cheaper. The weapon was given a new designation MKb 43 and after modification it was classified as a semi-locked breechloading weapon. In the spring of 1943, the weapon was presented to Ordnance Bureau personnel and excelled with a firing demonstration where 6,000 rounds were fired without a single malfunction. Four more prototypes were ordered for further trials. They were completed in early 1944 and tests were conducted at the Kummersdorf firing range. This created a serious competitor to the StG44 production that was just getting underway. The working time for the production of theStG 44 was 14 hours and the gun cost RM 70. The MKb43 cost RM40.- and took 7.5 hours to produce. The price and half the production time would mean doubling the production of a standard infantry weapon. A 30-piece batch was ordered for small-scale military trials. The last official designation was StG 45(M) and this weapon was counted on as a replacement StG 44. All the pieces in progress were captured by the advancing Allies.
The development of this advanced design gave rise to the post-war G 3 assault rifle.

The photo of Mauser 06_1 is one of the prototypes, the others show the final form of the weapon. The Spanish CETME rifle was then constructed on its basis. For comparison in the photo from Oberndorf (Mauser museum) you can compare the two guns, the CETME is the one below.
