AR327 Commander (3D radiolokátor)

AR327 Commander
AR327 Commander

A 3D long-range surveillance radar operating in S-band.It was developed to meet the requirements of the British Armed Forces for an easily transportable C2 (Command and Control) system by the BAE System consortium (specifically Siemens Plessey Systems, Air Defence Division).

Introduced into the arsenal of the British Armed Forces in 1997 as the Type 101 (Type 101, or T101).

Through the application of new technological solutions and operational experience, an upgraded modification, designated Commander SL, was developed and inducted into the British Armed Forces in 2008 as Type 102 (Type 102 or T102).

In addition to the AR327 version, other radars are part of the Commander type range - see overview.

The basic elements of the AR327 radar are the same as those of the basic AR325 type. However, a significant change is the antenna, which had to be downsized due to mobility requirements. The reduction was achieved by reducing the waveguide elements from 60 to 40, which also resulted in changes in beam generation. The redesigned antenna can be transported on a trailer, in the undercarriage under a helicopter, or in the cargo hold of an aircraft (e.g. C-130). Other changes were aimed at simplifying maintenance and troubleshooting, which was addressed by changes in the location of modules with a higher probability of failure so that they were more reachable in terms of possible replacement. Closely related to the simplification of maintenance is the use of common pre-industrial components, which simplifies the supply of spare parts and reduces the overall cost of acquiring and operating the radar.
