TNH light tank

The abbreviation TNH in its original form referred to the project and prototype of a tank series with the Praga TN engine, modified for use in tracked vehicles, hence the letter "H".

The same abbreviation TNH bore a series of 50 tanks for Iran. In the final stages of export, military testing and production of spare parts, the tank was designated TNH-P (Persian).

In the late 1930s, preparations began for light tank exports to Sweden. In the first phase, a production vehicle specimen for Iran was offered for testing at a factory redesignated TNH-S (Swedish). At that time, the Czechoslovak army felt the need for an easy-to-operate "fool-resistant" tracked attack vehicle. The choice fell on the TNH-S tank model. Therefore, the military administration always states the abbreviation TNH-S and the company ČKD manages between the terms TNH-P and TNH-S.

For military tests, the company supplied a chassis from the "Persian-Swedish prototype" and the army tank tower LT vz. 35. Intensive tests followed, then modifications according to the requirements of the commission, then return to tests, etc. During the year, a tested prototype was accepted as a standard light tank model 1938 in the Czechoslovak Army. Production of serial machines began, which were slightly wider and heavier than the prototype. Until the occupation, the military administration only had to take over one tank. The machines with numbers 2 to 10 were taken over by representatives of the MNO in liquidation and others by representatives of the German armaments authorities.

During the factory and military tests, the Swedish Scania-Vabis engine was copied in ČKD, for which ČKD used the abbreviations TNHP/S or TNHPS. This designation also sometimes appears in the archive documentation for serial tanks.

1/ Níže uvedené video představuje zkoušky prototypu konstrukční řady tanků TNH a prototypu konstrukční řady věžových tančíků AH-IV.
