It is located about 25 km southwest of the city of Autun (originally Augustodunum), the department of Saône et Loire, France. It was the main oppidem powerful of the gallic (celtic) tribe Haedů (or whether or not Hédů). It is situated on top of the dominating heights of Mont Beuvray, which is 822 m asl Is in the area of ancient trade routes connecting the basin of the Loire, Saôny and the Seine. Especially extensive excavations here took place already in the years 1867 to 1907 under the leadership of J. G. Bulliota his nephew J. Décheletta, which is a major French archaeologist. The actual settlement has an area of about 135 ha, that orbits a massive wall, the type of murus gallicus, which is a long, approximately 5 km. This wall was made up of a horizontal grate placed alternately perpendicular to each other, they were united by a long iron wedges. Free space was filled with clay and stones, the freely protruding end of the wood were sunk into the cheek of the stone walls, which were imposed on the drought. On the most accessible places carved into the rock massive ditches. The main gate was klešťovitého type, val cranked to the right angle inside. Has been detected a number of both residential and economic buildings, most of them belonged to the gallo – roman period. Artisanal neighborhood has been found in the position of Come-Chaudron, a number of local workshops processing metal, or produced emailované items. In the position of the Parc aux chevaux, which lies on the plateau above the Come-Chaudron, were found extensive átrijové houses, which were dwellings of the local nobility (nobility). At the highest point of the celtic settlement was found smaller quadrilateral sanctuary of the gallo – roman period, that was preceded by a sanctuary of the celtic. The Oppidum was partially abandoned after it was the year 5 bc. n. l. founded the city of Augustodunum.
