In the mid-sixties 20. century the armed forces of developed countries have begun to increasingly care about the use of snipers. Also, the command of the austrian army decided to train snipers and arm them with modern rifles. In 1969, developed by the austrian nra repeating rifle the SSG-69 (Scharfschützengewehr 69, sniper rifle 69) with odsuvným cylindrical finally locked six uzamykacími barbs with a telescopic sight Kahles ZF69 from the austrian company Kahles. SSG69 has become the standard sniper rifle of the austrian armed forces.
From the seventies, was introduced into the armament of the military and police forces of many countries of the world and is a favorite for their accuracy (with proper ammunition under 0.5 MOA) as well as sport shooters and hunters. For staff use are available passive and active night vision goggles.
Production was terminated in the year 2015.
