The radio station in Gliwice would go down in history as the place where 31. August 1939 place of operation Himmler. Section of the SS officers then raided the radio station with the intention to broadcast it into the ether speech about the takeover of the station by the Polish army. In Gliwice, however, was not a radio studio, but only a relay station, which the members of the commandos probably didn't know. Eventually was used the so-called storm the microphone, which, moreover, ceased to operate soon and on the air so got only the first words of the 5-minute speech: "Attention! Here Gliwice, the radio station is in Polish hands." In place then the SS commando left shot the Polish prisoners from the Dachau camp, dressed in Polish uniforms. The whole event should serve as a pretext for an attack on Poland.

Radio station in Gliwice consists of two objects. The original radio station of the year 1925 she was standing in the southwest part of the city, formed her two-story building and two metallic 75 m high pylons, between which was strung the antenna. The building stands to this day, is from her hospital. Located in the street Radiowa. Masts have been possible in 1937.

At the opposite end of town about 4 km further (ul. Tarnogórska) was in 1935 built a wooden radio tower, 111 m high. At the time of the robbery, the transmitter transmitting the program from the studio in Breslau (today's Wroclaw), after the war of Katowice. In the years 1950 - 1956 on it were placed the jamming of western radio stations. This tower has been preserved to the present day, it is the highest wooden building in Europe and second highest in the world. In the adjacent buildings is a museum which was unfortunately closed during my visit. Around the tower is a newly built park with benches.
