After testing, the Swiss Air Force selected the D.27 as their new fighter and bought the prototype. A pre-series of five aircraft, designated D.27 III, was ordered from EKW, and additional contracts were placed for 15 D.27 IIIs (interceptor fighter) and 45 D.27 IIIRs. The D.27 III was powered by a 500 hp Hispano-Suiza 12Mb twelve-cylinder Vee engine, the D.27 IIIR by a 570 hp Hispano-Suiza 12Mc, The HS 12Mc engines were developing many problems and all D.27 IIIRs were re-engined to D.27 III standard. The D.27 III were fitted with two synchronized 0.303 in machine-guns.

The D.27 III served with the Swiss Air Force from 1931 to 1944. But in 1940 they were regulated to secondary roles

History:

The swiss factory EKW (Eidgenösschische Konstruktionswerkstätten) [/url] contributed significantly to the development of a fighter aircraft Many D. 27, Emile Many after the restructuring of its French company took over the prototype and continued the already commenced rehearsals D.27. The swiss, however, at that time (1929) felt the need to modernize its air force and so purchased the licensing rights for the production of D.27, which was at that time the best fighter plane in Europe. Purchased one prototype and five pre-series aircraft and subsequently began to produce the license of the machine, which have been slightly modified. The most tangible difference was the radiator fluid. The French machines had a frontal radiator, in contrast, the Swiss have achieved a higher aerodynamic cleanliness and the radiator were replaced by slide-out cooler box appearance. The swiss pre-series machines was fifteen, drove the engines Hispano-Suiza 12Mb, the other forty-five serial fighters (D.27IIR) was powered by a more powerful version of the engine series "M" - version of the 12Mc, this version was glitchy so much so that it was gradually being replaced by older but more reliable version 12Mb.

In Switzerland Dewoitiny D.27III and D.27IIIR flew up to the year 1944, in 1940, however, were mostly withdrawn from combat units and the following years were used for training and fitness flying.
