Fahrzeug - und Motoren-Werke GmbH arose 15. November, 1935, after Junkers buy machinery department vagonky Linke-Hofmann-Busch. Junkers owned 99 % of the company until January 1942, when the decision of the Reich ministry of aviation took over the Junkersův share of the Bank der Deutschen Luftfahrt, which thus became the sole owner of the company.

In Wroclaw were produced two basic types of track-laying tractors, 60/65 PS "Rübezahl" and 42/45 PS "Boxer". In addition, there were also produced diesel engines for tractors and boats, compressors, etc., including test standů for automotive and aircraft engines. Most civilian production was terminated after the start of the war terminated and the company then focused on just the production of vehicles and engines. In the framework of the preparations then in 1937 created the department of special vehicles, which worked on the development of polopásového tractors for the army, the result of which was Sd.Kfz.9.

Shortly after the occupation of Poland has taken over the FAMO race a tractor factory Ursus in Warsaw and the other in Pruszkówě. In may 1942 there was a merger of both organizations into the company Waverma, or Warschauer Vereinigten Maschinenfabriken GmbH, headquartered in Wroclaw. In the warsaw factory was then, mostly forced laborers, Poles, produced self-propelled howitzer Wespe (the main race of the FAMO in Breslau again used as the working power of the prisoner from a concentration camp Gross-Rosen, therefore, established on the territory of the factory your side the camp Breslau I). The procedure of the Red army in August and September 1944, the warsaw race jeopardized so much so that most of the equipment and the labor force moved to Breslau. Soon after but got into danger and vratislavský race, and 7. December 1944 it was decided about its evacuation. In January of the following year because there has been a partial relocation to the premises of the factory of the company Junkers in the saxon Schönebecku. FAMO here received available two halls of a total area of 13000 square meters under the codename "Betrieb 71, Sommer What."

The end of the war meant also the end of the company FAMO. What wasn't destroyed, it was after the war, stripped of the regulation of the victorious powers. All three factories but gradually returned to the manufacture - warsaw Ursus was restored, at Breslau from the factory FAMO become a manufacturer of electric motors Dolmel, and from schönebecké the factory later became part of the VEB IFA..
