NLD - DAF YAD 4442

DAF YAD 4442 - a flatbed version of the 4-ton truck, the 2nd generation of the YA 4440 series. The YA 4442 type series began production in December 1989 based on an order from the same year. This series differs from its predecessor with a different engine (DAF DNT 620), a new transmission with 6 gears, but also a higher weight. More than 5100 units were produced.

The general designation of the model YA 4442 means

The third letter in the model designation indicates the specific version:
YAD (D - Dienst) - a roller version equipped with folding benches for passenger transport (some sources indicate 6, others 9 benches),
YAK (K - Kraan) - a flatbed version equipped with a hydraulic crane behind the cab,
YAS (S- Shelter) - container carrier (serves as a universal chassis for transporting container offices, workshops, warehouses, field hospitals and other shelters),
YAT (T-Telex) - connecting body,
YAI (I - Inbouw) - mobile workshop,
YAL (L - Les) - vehicle with extended cab and bringing out the brake and clutch controls also to the passenger seat, intended for driver training,
YAJ (J - Jerrycan) - a special body for the transport of fuel in jerry cans,
YAM (M - Marines) - a version modified to meet the requirements of the Marine Corps, with increased wading ability and measures to facilitate operation in Arctic conditions,
YAV (V - Vegen) - vehicle equipped with NIDO HF25DS universal sweeper (e.g. for airport maintenance, etc.),
YAB (B - Brandweer) - fire fighting vehicle, 2 units produced for the needs of the military fire fighting units Artillerie Schietkamp in Harde and Infanterie Schietkamp in Harskamp,
YAP (P - Personnel) - body for transporting soldiers (for 14 soldiers sitting back to back).

Several modified YAK 4442 vehicles were used by the 105th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battery as mobile workshops for repairing power plants. A half-container was placed in the rear of the loading area to serve as a workshop, and the space behind the crane in the front of the loading area could be used to transport electrocentrifuges for gun or radar needs. For this unit, standard YAD 4442 rollers were also used as artillery tractors to haul Bofors 40L70 anti-aircraft guns and HSA KL/MSS-6720 Flycatcher radars.

Special superstructures with specific markings were also used on the 4442 chassis:
- YF (F - Fuel) had a tanker superstructure and pumps installed for transporting and distributing fuel.
- The YPS were fitted with a launcher for drones, initially SAGEM Sperwer and after their retirement Boeing ScanEagle.

A separate category is the 105 mm MOBAT self-propelled gun for export. Six were produced for Bahrain and 18 for Jordan.
