During a training flight crashed the machine F-16AM (FA99) of 31. squadron 10. wings of air force base Kleine Brogel in the Peer. The Pilot, lieutenant Jean Francois Van Crane, managed to eject. Finally landed in a tree, where he had an apartment saved by the rescue service ladder.
The probable cause was a bird strike and subsequent engine failure. But the cause is still under investigation.
Residents in the vicinity of the accident were warned to close doors and windows and didn't get out, because there is a leakage of hydrazine from the deck of the aircraft. Tank with hydrogen gas was found intact, and so this measure was later repealed.
