6. armoured division was established 15. February 1942 in kentuckém Fort Knox. 15. march 1942 was the move to the arkansas Camp Chaffee, where the completed formation. Division in August and September of 1942, she participated in maneuvers VIII. corps in Louisiana and in October arrived at the california Camp Rice, to have maneuvers in the local desert training center. After she was placed in a california Camp Cooke. From 3. February 1944 at new york's Camp Shanks started to prepare for the voyage to Europe. From the new york boarding port surged 11. February. To England arrived 25. February and continued here in training. 18. July, i.e. in D+42, landed on the beach of Utah. The fighting has involved 27. July in the framework of operation COBRA. After its end out through the Avranches at a rapid pace to Brest. Then pointing to the southeast to Lorient, where it scooped the eastern direction and has led the way forward by France. In mid-November crossed after heavy fighting the river Nied and 6. December reached the German border. Here in Saarbrücken took up defensive position.

Due to the convex the battle of the Bulge, got a division 23. December orders to go to the northwest to Bastogne to relieve 4. armored division, which had suffered during the operation to help the city to substantial losses. 6. armored division then led the sortie 3. the army the troops in the northern part of the battlefield and participated in the elimination of deployed German troops. The division got a short time to recuperate, and then broke through the Siegfried line, crossed the river Prüm and 21. march reached at Worms, germany river Rhine. The crossed four days later in Oppenheim. Turned north on to Frankfurt, crossed the Main area and went to Bad Nauheim, where she turned again slightly to the east and at the beginning of April occupied Mühlhausen. Then crossed the Hall and liberated the concentration camp at Buchenwald. Another occupied town was Leipzig, from which the division went to Rochlitz on the river Mulde, which reached in the middle of April. Here take a defensive position and waited for the arrival of the Red army. 18. September 1945, the division was deactivated.

6. armored division landed 18. July 1944 on the beach of UTAH and 24. July finished in the subordination of the XX. ward 3. army training camp at Le Mesnil on the peninsula of the Cotentin. The second day of the Americans in operation COBRA tried to breakthrough the German obrnay and a swipe of Normandy. At first it was hard, but then get things moving. 25. July was a division přepodřízena VIII. the choir was preparing for the order to attack. The fight surged 27. July. Plan 3. the army assumed leadership of the offensive activities of the south and south-westerly direction. VIII. the corps should ensure the heights northwest of Coutances. 6. armored division was tasked to drive through the standings 79. infantry division at Lessay, proceed south along the road from Lessay to Coutances and occupy the mentioned heights.
