Bionix

The project, which culminated in a Bionix infantry fighting vehicle, was launched at ST Automotive (now ST Kinetics) in the early 1990s. The first tangible result was the experimental car XV1, which became the direct predecessor of the Bionix. The contract for the supply of new infantry fighting vehicles for the Singapore Army was concluded between the local Ministry of Defense and the manufacturer ST Automotive in January 1995. The first serial machine was completed in September 1997.

The Bionix chassis consists of six castors, three guide rollers with a drive wheel at the front and a tensioner at the rear. The arrangement of the body does not deviate from the established practice. The driver of the vehicle sits in its left front part, to the right of him is a powerpack consisting of a Detroit Diesel DDC 6V 92TA engine and an HMPT 500-3EC automatic transmission. Acceleration from 0 to 32 km/h takes 10 seconds. The entire powerpack can be removed from the body in field conditions in approximately fifteen minutes.

In the middle of the vehicle is a battle tower. The Bionix 25 version is a two-seater turret with a full-circle measurement, in which the American M242 cannon with a 7.62 mm machine gun coupled is mounted. Their elevation is -10 ° to + 60 °. The cannon uses HEI (High Explosive Incendiary) and APFSDS (Armor Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot) ammunition under license manufactured in Singapore by CIS (originally produced by the Swiss Oerlikon-Contraves). The Bionix 40/50 variant has a turret with a 40 mm CIS 40 grenade launcher (stock of 32 pieces of ammunition) of Singaporean origin supplemented by a coupled CIS 50 12.7 mm machine gun, which is also a product of the Singaporean industry. The elevation of the grenade launcher is -8 ° to + 45 °. The tower operated by one man has a measurement of ± 110 ° from the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. For passive protection, both versions on each half of the tower are equipped with a triple launcher for smoke grenades. In the rear of the hull there is a landing area for seven (Bionix 25) or nine-member (Bionix 40/50) swarm.

ST Kinetics and Bionix also participated in a tender for new vehicles for the so-called Brigade Combat Team for the US Army. Therefore, a new version of the Bionix ICV was created, which was lightened compared to its predecessors, because the original machines are too heavy to transport aircraft C-130 Hercules. Bionix ICV is directly based on the Bionix 25, whose two-seater turret was replaced by the American stabilized turret Recon/Optical with a machine gun M2 caliber 12.7 mm. The winner of the tender was the LAV III, which are referred to by the US military as the Stryker.

Versions:
Bionix 25 - basic version with a two-seater turret with a 25 mm cannon
Bionix 40/50 - basic version with a single tower with a 40 mm grenade launcher
Bionix ICV - a lightweight version of the Bionix 25 with a new turret, which participated in the audition for a new armored vehicle of the US Army, not introduced into service
Bionix II - modernisation of Bionix 25 with a 30 mm cannon and a new set of electronics
Bionix ARV - rescue vehicle
Bionix AVLB - bridge vehicle
SSPH 1 Primus - 155 mm self-propelled howitzer
