Fighter ace 1st vol. war, served on the Turkish front. He achieved 10 victories here and was therefore the most successful German fighter on this battlefield. After the war he remained in the army and served in the Luftwaffe. He reached the rank of Major General and held a high position on the African battlefield. He has been missing since August 31, 1941, when the He-111, on board which he traveled from Derna to Rome, disappeared without a trace somewhere over the Mediterranean.
