During the fighting in 1940 in France and later in North Africa, German troops captured several British infantry tanks Matilda of various production versions. Other Matilda captured on the Eastern Front. It is believed that this particular tank was captured in North Africa and bore the number "111".
Tank Matilda II was converted to a self-propelled gun. The original tower was removed and in its place was mounted 5 cm tank cannon KwK 38 L/42. This cannon had some versions Pz.Kpfw.III and it is quite possible that the cannon was used from some canceled tank. Additional equipment consisted of two machine guns MG 15 caliber 7.92 mm. This machine served in 1942 in the school unit Hochsee-Lehrkommando in Terneuzene in the occupied Netherlands . Originally, a complete tank, called "Oswald", was used for training. At the end of 1942, the tower was removed and the mentioned cannon was mounted. His fate is unclear, later he probably ended up in a scrap yard.
