The Italian command deployed a total of 14 divisions in the twelve-kilometer section between S. Peter (Šempeter) and the sea. 24,000 men paid for the advance by three kilometers to the depths of the Austro-Hungarian lines. Austrian losses amounted to 20,000 men ...

From the witness's memories:

... I scrambled out and rolled my eyes, guys like me just like that. There is a machine gun in the trench, two Dalmatians next to it, and they shoot only short series in front of our caverns. There a crowd of Italians flocks to us. In the front row, everyone has white scarves in their hands, which they wave, throwing rifles far apart. The rear swarms - and there is an invisible current - but continue to run with rifles. But not for long. A second machine gun crashed from the side to our left, and there was confusion in the rear. They seem to be in trouble with them, they are in a crossfire and there is nowhere to run. But Beppo can handle it. In an instant, everyone has white scarves in their hands and the whole army looks like a huge swarm of white butterflies. "Fuck, kill them!" Dalmatian shouts at the belt, but the shooters don't want to. "Don't let me go," I shout again, "you see I'm going to stop you with a white stop." The Italians have after the war, but our heroes did not get to Italy again. We were a little sorry. Such a beautiful place and no captivity again. We're just watching the enemy boys, like buci, laugh around us captive. Just wait, you'll be there.
The theater was far from over. From the back cavern, a crowd of our gray, dirty soldiers marched among the Italians and rushed unarmed against them, into the trenches from which the Italians had just emerged in an endless chain. They willingly released them, considered them prisoners. It was after the fight, both sides captured each other. The flow of Italians stopped, the valley slowly emptied. In a moment, artillery will start again ...
