Portholme was a meadow near the town of Huntingdon, which was at the end of the 19. century used as a racecourse and thanks to its location and size has become a favorite among the british pioneers of aviation. In April 1910 from the Portholnu taken off the first plane, the Blériot piloted by James Radleym, who then With his friend William Rhodes-Moorhousem in Huntington founded the factory for the aircraft. Portholme Aerodrome Ltd. build the machine according to the Radleyových proposals, inspired by the Blériotem, and operated also a flight school on the Portholmu. All of their machines have been gradually damaged in accidents and due to financial problems the factory purchased the firm Handley Page Ltd., which then produced the bodywork for the cars. Rhodes-Moorhouse after the outbreak of war he joined the Royal Flying Corps and in 1915 was killed in an air raid on the railway station of Kortrijk, for which he was first pilot posthumously awarded the Victoria cross.

The company Portholme Aerodrome during the war stood still cars, in 1915, built a few dozen armored cars for the brothers Seabrookovy - shopped parts usually from american manufacturers and because of the savings they assemble in the Uk under its brand. The struggling firm also had to help the order from the british admiralty on 20 bombers Wight type 840, due to the poor quality of the production was but after four machines cancelled. But then came the next order and in the Huntington built a 300 Camelů and 153 Snipů. Further production Snipů was terminated after the conclusion of the truce and the company (in the meantime, reorganizovaná as Portholme Aircraft Co.) again got into trouble. In 1920 the factory was for sale, and 11. July 1922 went into bankruptcy. Factory took over the firm of English Clocks & Gramophones Ltd..
