Operation Bodyguard
Operation Bodyguard
Operation Bodyguard of 1944 was a collective designation for a series of operations whose common goal was to deceive the Germans with intelligence as to the time and, most importantly, the location of Operations Overlord and Anvil/Dragoon. The Germans were expected to land in the Balkans, Scandinavia or the Pas de Calais area and tie up their forces there. Operation Bodyguard consisted of three main parts - Operation Fortitude North, Operation Fortitude South, Operation Zeppelin - and a number of supporting operations.
The operation ended in success. Decision-makers expected an invasion at Pas de Calais, and large German forces were left in the Balkans and Scandinavia.
