Narukoval v roce 1915 k 1. Regiment der Tiroler Kaiserjäger (1. pluk tyrolských císařských myslivců).
Dne 17. února 1917 byl povýšen na leutnant a 20. března 1917 nastoupil do Fliegeroffiziersschule, Flosch ve Vídeňském Novém Městě. Pilotní průkaz FAI č. 857 získal 29. října 1917.


Dne 31. srpna 1918 byl sestřelen na letounu Albatros D.III (Oef) 153.271 spolu s dalšími třemi piloty z Flik 3J. Sestřelen byl britským leteckým esem kapitánem Joseph Cottle, poblíž Peralto (Ponte Strenta).


Dne 31. srpna 1918 se zúčastnil bojového letu s velitelem Flik 3J Oberleutnant Friedrich Navratil, Oberleutnant Stefan Stec, Oberleutnant Josef Pürer, Leutnant in der Reserve Stanislaus Tomicki, Stabsfeldwebel Otto Förster.
Poslední tři jmenovaní byli s ním v osudný den a v osudný bojový let sestřeleni. Leutnant in der Reserve Stanislaus Tomicki a Oberleutnant Josef Pürer zahynuli. Stabsfeldwebel Otto Förster skončil v zajetí v nepřátelské nemocnici.
