SOV - 9K112 Kobra / AT-8 Songster

9K112 Kobra
T-64 , the world's first PTRK-armed battleship, which used the barrel of a standard 125 mm calibre 2A 46M smoothbore tank gun to fire the PTRS. The anti-tank missile set used in this tank carries the designation 9K 112 KOBRA and the PTRS has the designation 9M112 (the US code designation is AT-8 and NATO SONGSTER). This set can fire at targets up to 4000 m away. During the entire time the missile is flying at the target, the target must be in the field of view of the gunner's sight - rangefinder 1G42. The speed of the target fired at can be up to 75 km/h. It is possible to fire at the target from a standstill , or while driving up to 30 km/h. The missile is guided to the target semi-automatically, using a modulated tracer light source and radio commands. The calculation of the missile flight path, the processing of the commands and their transmission by radio signals on board the missile is carried out by the guidance apparatus 9S461.
The PTRK 9K112 Kobra (AT-8 Songster) anti-tank missile set has the PTRS 9M112 stored in the cartridge (it is fired through the tank's gun), the guidance system is semi-automatic and the PTRS is guided by a radio-guidance system.
The PTRS 9M112 consists of two parts (main and tail) which are joined together during the loading process into the 2A 46M tank gun's chamber. The main part, is made up of a cumulative warhead and a solid propellant flight rocket motor. In the tail section, there is an apparatus section and a device used for firing the projectile from the gun barrel. The on-board apparatus is used to receive, amplify, decode and process the homing command signals. It can operate in two codes and five preset frequencies.
Later, the PTRS 9M112 was introduced into the armament of the 9K 112-1 KOBRA complex, carried by the T-80B tank (inducted into service in 1980). The guidance apparatus 9S461-1 with a sighting device - gunner's rangefinder 1G42 and a fire control system 1A33 are used for guiding the missile.
PTRK 9K 112 and 9K 112-1 form the armament of all modifications of T-64B, T-80B tanks, except for the command versions (T-64B1K, T-64B1KV, T-80BV, T-80BVK). In the firing diameter of these tanks there are 4 to 6 pieces of PTRS 9M112.
PTRK 9K 112 and 9K 112-1 KOBRA, allowed a significant increase in the range of tanks of the then Soviet design, the accuracy of firing was also increased. Of course, they also had drawbacks: too much minimum firing distance (1000 m) and, above all, a problematic radio-guidance system, which could be easily jammed. These PTRKs are being phased out of service or are being scrapped. The T-80B series tanks are being converted to newer types of PTRKs.

The PTRK 9K112 Cobra is mounted on the T-64BV and T-80BV tanks.
