In 1944, captured Soviet amphibious tanks T-38 were converted into training vehicles to be used for training infantry and anti-tank units. The turret was removed from the original tanks and an approximate mock-up of a Soviet medium tank KV-1 (hull and turret) was created from wood and sheet metal on the hull. From the Finnish army's stocks, 15 machines were allocated for conversions, some sources claim that 4 were used for the T-38-KV conversion and the rest (11) for a conversion simulating the Soviet medium tank T-34 (this conversion was designated T-38-34). The machine carried no armament. The vehicles served in this form until 1961, when they were retired from service.
