Anti-aircraft tank T-60 (zjenitnyj)
Brief history
In 1942, the Soviet military leadership commissioned the development of a light anti-aircraft tank to several design bureaus. It was to be a vehicle with identical driving characteristics to the light tanks of the time.
The design bureau of Sverdlovsk-based Zavod No. 37 addressed the assignment with two designs, the first using the chassis of the T-60 light tank and the second based on the T-70 light tank. A pair of large-calibre machine guns were mounted on a swinging hull in a top-open turret. The anti-aircraft tank T-60 (zjen.) did not complete the comparison tests due to the poor handling characteristics of the undersized chassis and an inappropriately chosen anti-aircraft sight with a collimator. The remaining two anti-aircraft tank prototypes passed the full range of military tests, but neither went into production due to the alleged low effectiveness of the chosen anti-aircraft weapon.
