Imitating smoke-forming agents
Smoke machines
The purpose of DA smokeboxes is to release smoke of the desired colour during combustion. During the course of the exercise, these properties are exploited:
(a) For tactical orientation, i.e., to delineate the front edge of own or enemy units, to delineate unit interfaces, occupied spaces, or direction of attack, to identify units, etc,
(b) for topographical orientation, i.e., to delineate important landmarks, to determine cardinal points, nests of resistance, etc.,
(c) for day-to-day signalling between smaller units, or for signalling between ground units and air forces,
(d) to simulate the firing of equipment or objects,
(e) to camouflage smaller equipment or objects,
(f) to determine the direction and speed of a surface wind.
DA smoke bombs can also serve as individual armament, their small size and weight allow them to be carried in a pocket, etc.
DA smoke detectors cannot be used at night and in low visibility - during fog, heavy rain or heavy snow.
Tactical and technical data of the DA 25:
- diameter ............................................................ 51 mm
- height ............................................................... 60 mm
- weight ......................................................... 110 to 160 g
- signal duration ........................................ 20 to 30 s
DA 100 smoke detectors
The purpose of the DA 100 is to release smoke of the desired colour during combustion. Compared to the DA 25, the DA 100 has approximately eight times more smoke-forming substance and the smoke duration is four times longer. The use of the DA 100 is identical to that of the DA 25.
The DA 100 cannot be used at night and in low visibility - during fog, heavy rain and heavy snow.
Tactical and technical data of the DA 100:
- diameter ................................................ 100 mm
- height ................................................... 160 mm
- weight ............................................. 900 to 1340 g
- signal duration ............................ 60 - 100 s
Component weight .............................0,28 kg
