Yakovlev yak-7M[/heading]

In September 1941, at a time when the Soviet union badly needed modern fighter aircraft, the decision was made to modify the training How-7UTI into a fighter airplane. This adjustment was the logical path, training, How-7UTI was already made and so should be a simple adjustment, thanks to which the factory producing exercise machines produced a full-fledged fighter. One modification to the suggested production plant no. 301 in Moscow, this modification was taken and introduced into production, the second a proposal submitted by the designers of the saratovského manufacturing factory no. 292. Their proposal used the experience from the production of fighter Yak-1 and was also more sophisticated.
Hull of the yak-7UTI flight trainer was adapted to the single form a simple clearing of the rear end of a bus and the double management. The wing was modified so that it was slightly reduced range (about 260 mm) and the wings were mounted two cannons ŠVAK the caliber of 20 mm. This mounting of cannon to force a reduction of the fuel tanks in the wings, in each wing so less space for 23 liters of fuel. The designers of this loss eliminated osmdesátilitrovou fuel tank installed into the vacated space after the instructor flying. The wing was also equipped with automatic slots, which have significantly improved the flight characteristics of the aeroplane.
The armament was made up of three cannons ŠVAK (cannon mounted between the cylinder of the engine is maintained), these cannons were zastříleny at a distance of 400 m. machine-Gun armament was removed. The aircraft gained a really massive firepower, the disadvantage was a high cadence unsynchronized weapons and so the pilot had to shoot only short bursts, plus cannons ŠVAK was the lack of.
The aircraft passed state tests in the days 31. 10. 1941 - 27. 12. 1941, for two weeks, the tests were interrupted at the time of the evacuation of the examination centre, the total was in the tests carried out 39 flights in the duration of 20 h 35 min. The result of the tests, the recommendation was for the production, the aircraft was stable and easily handled, possessed of great firepower, which it was possible to use on the ground or shipping targets. In production, however, received a competitive proposal from Moscow, but it was recommended to be taken over by the installation osmdesátilitrové the fuel tank to the space behind the pilot.
