Colonel Aristarkh Mikhailovich GORJAINOV
Aristarkh Mikhailovich Goryainov was born on April 15, 1902, in the town of Seraphimovich, Ust-Medvedka Oblast of tsarist Russia.
Before serving in the army A. M. Goryainov worked as a tax inspector in the food committee of the Ust-Medvedichi district from 1921. In January 1924, he was conscripted into the Red Army and assigned to the 38th Stavropol Cavalry Regiment of the 7th Cavalry Division. After graduating from regimental school, he served as a platoon commander from July 1925. In 1925 he was elected as a delegate to the 7th All-Belarusian Congress of Soviets. From August 1925 to September 1928 he studied at the United Military School named in Moscow. After graduating from it, he was assigned to the 62nd Cavalry Regiment of Stalin's Special Cavalry Division in Moscow. He served as platoon commander of the 3rd Squadron, deputy chief of the regimental school, platoon commander of the machine-gun detachment, deputy commander and commander of the machine-gun detachment, deputy chief of staff of the regiment, deputy chief of the regimental school, and 2nd. Deputy Chief of Staff of the Regiment.
From December 1936 to April 1937, he served in the Cavalry Advanced Training Course for commanders in Novocherkassk. After returning to the regiment, he served as the regiment's deputy chief of staff. In October 1938, he was appointed head of the junior lieutenants' courses at this division. On 10 August 1939, he was transferred to the post of Deputy Commander of the Cavalry Regiment of the Special Cavalry Brigade. From 8 December 1939 in the same brigade he served as Chief of Staff of the 26th Cavalry Regiment, and from 21 November 1940 he was Commander of the 28th Cavalry Regiment. On 25 March 1941, Major Gorjainov was appointed commander of the 42nd Motorized Artillery Regiment of the 42nd Tank Division21st Mechanized Corps.
At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the 42nd Panzer Division went to the Northwestern Front as part of the corps, and from 28. June 1941, it fought heavy battles in the area of Daugavpils against the 4th Tank Group of the enemy, later retreating to the Pskov direction. A lengthy article was written about the regiment's fighting during this period in the 18 August 1941 Pravda newspaper under the title "Gorjain's men". At the end of August 1941 major A. M. Gorjainov took command of the 23rd Rifle Division, but as early as 24 September 1941 he was transferred to the post of deputy commander of the 257th Rifle Division34th Army. On 28 October 1941, he assumed command of the 20th Rifle Brigade. In this capacity, he proved to be a courageous, self-sacrificing commander.
In January-April 1942, as part of the troops of the Southern Group of the Northwestern Front, the brigade, as part of the troops of the Southern Group of the Northwestern Front, fought in offensive battles from Lake Seliger to Molvotitsa, and set an example of self-sacrifice. By order of 21 July 1942, the brigade commander, Colonel A. M. Goryainov was awarded the Order of Lenin. From April to October 1942 he studied at the Higher Military Academy. After completing its accelerated course, he was appointed deputy commander of the 1st Mechanized Corps. In December, the corps participated in the offensive operation of the Kalinin Front near the town of Bely. After successfully entering the breakthrough, its units fought their way into the enemy defenses for up to 75 km, but were surrounded along with part of the 6th Siberian Corps' forces. For 15 days they fought fierce battles with a large tank group and under the strong influence of the enemy air force. During these battles, Colonel A. M. Goryainov was severely wounded and died of his wounds on 19 December 1942.
