Autonomous Republic of Crimea
Автономна Республіка Крим

The autonomous republic of Crimea is from the point of view of international law, part of Ukraine with the status of autonomous parliamentary republic and the main city of Simferopol, while it occupies most of the Crimean peninsula. The rest of the peninsula occupies the city with special status Sevastopol. However, the republic is, as well as the city of Sevastopol, under the de facto control of Russia, that here at the beginning of 2014 has deployed its military units, which with the help of local pro-Russian activists carried out the occupation of the area. Then held a rigged referendum, on the basis of which independence was proclaimed in Ukraine and, subsequently, was carried out the annexation of the territory of the Russian federation. This status recognised by only a few states (often with undemocratic regimes), along with three internationally also or unrecognised, on Russia dependent entities. The UN general assembly adopted a resolution on the invalidity of the referendum and the subsequent changes to the status of Crimea and Sevastopolu.

Due to the de facto control of the territory of the republic of Russia geographical information to this territory available in the the topic Republic of the Crimea.
