Památečná věc z Chebu 1945 - US army

1945 97th Infantry Cheb Freedom Militaria Memorabilia

Diskuse

Hello, everyone,
I have a question today about this souvenir.
I bought it in the US as an item an American soldier brought home from Europe after the war.

It's the first time I've seen such a thing.

It's about 10 centimeters in diameter.

Do you know if someone made it on his own initiative, or was it officially in Cheb as a souvenir??
Thanks

There are a few peculiarities, firstly Cheb was a German town during the war, so a private initiative of someone is unlikely and a German would probably write Eger, then there is a strange date, the fighting for Cheb was a day later, 25.4.1945. So the whole thing is more likely a commission from someone who had this plaque made after the war, either in a local pottery or in the USA. But take it as a guess.

I found that the action to liberate Cheb started on 24.4 and lasted until 26.4 officially. Not counting the fight for the airport.
So the date's right.

And with the German... the Czechs wouldn't be happy to write it in German for "liberation"...

Personally, I wouldn't see much of a problem with that.

What I have from Pilsen in May '45 is a brochure " American Army in Pilsen" which the soldiers were packing, so I'm interested to see what it is. Anyway, interesting and a memorial to the 97th Division......

thanks for any knowledge

Apparently, the fighting began on 25.4. and if we counted the airport, lasted until 28.4. in Cheb itself only until 26.4.
Well, how many Czechs were there at the end of the war? Apparently, the minimum, if any. Plus, it's in English, so it looks like a US Army order. The question is whether it's from just after the war, or later from the U.S.

Takže i tohle ukazuje spíš na něco poválečného, možná k výročí zhotoveného třeba i někým kdo anglicky vůbec neuměl a prostě nápis opsal z nějakého dokumentu.

Já sám tyto suvenýry a US militarie sbírám více než 25 let a tyto ručně vyráběné předměty jsou "co kus to originál". Tiše závidím, hned bych ho koupil, tedy kdyby to bylo možné Smile Každopádně velice děkuji za poskytnutou informaci !
