Oflag VIII E Johannisbrunn

Oflag VIII E remained organized by the Germans in July 1940 w Johannisbrunn (Jánské Koupele) round Opava in Czech Silesia as a general government. He stayed in it ok. 70 generals and their teachers:
* 30 from Poland,
* 30 from France,
* 9 from the Netherlands,
* 1 from Great Britain (by Nigel Somerset)
* 1 Colonel from Norway.


The commanders of the camp were the dormitory:
* Col. Hencker,
* gen. Maj. Johann Janusz.


On May 27, 1942, all Polish men were deported. The majority of them hit Oflag VII A Murnau.


In total, it operated from 28 July 1940 to 1 July 1942.

At the moment, Jánské koupe consists of several crumbling buildings and a cafeteria. The place comes to life several times a year when the Kružberk dam is released and the Moravice River is ridden.
