Tempo G1200

Tempo G1200

The type of history : Designed by Otto Dausem for the firm Vidal & Sohn in Hamburg. Company with him, 've send many competitions and organized and promotional drive. The car had an open body and was offered to both armies as to the civil sector, the surcharge has been delivered and the door which in the standard was not. Unusual design with two independent and nespojenými engines – each powered by its own remedy. Could work with either one or both engines, each with its own gearbox, clutch and cooling. Some models have both axles driven. The lever in both transmissions were just for myself so sort of both at the same time was not a problem.
Foreign users G1200 : Mexico, Brazil, Finland, Romania, Sweden (special 6 mísná version) Denmark, Latvia, Chile, and reportedly even Czechoslovakia (this indicates also that one of the surviving cars was found in Slovakia and supposedly comes from the armament of the Slovak army) during the war there were several dozen cars used by Germany especially for the SS.

The pace in Denmark : the first demonstration of a Tempo G1200 was conducted in November 1936. The evaluation was good, and one piece was purchased to further tests in December of the same year. Opinion other tests have differed with the original. After the accident the car was returned to the factory for repair, and implement some changes. Follow the new tests and those have led to an order of 4 cars in 1938. these were further tested and on the basis of the tests was purchased for a total of 20 cars for the Danish army. The Danish army of them apparently the power neužila because the country was in the 1940 occupied by Germany..

Despite the relatively small number of units produced, several cars have survived, at least three of them in the Czech Republic (there may be a 4th but I'm not sure and don't have it documented.
The three I had the opportunity to see are one from Lesany, (still in green on the photo, now repainted), the second, which was also exhibited for some time in Lesany, is grey on the photo and the only one with doors (I doubt the doors are original) is in the possession of a Prague owner, and the third is in private hands in South Moravia. This third car is in tri-colour camouflage and appears to be in the most original condition, it is a car that supposedly served in the Slovak army (I have not been able to verify this) and was acquired in a very sorry state and completely restored.

Hi to all
a small clarification to the Rates of G1200 on the territory of the CZECH republic:
1, the Pace of the green - include WHO the ACR and as far as I know, is still green already from the time when it was still in the near future. From then on it put together elektrosoustavu, but there are problems with the rear engine (not running as intended)
2, the Pace of the gray - r. v. 1941, the present owner, purchased in Brno from relatives before about 38 years, since it's still in operation outside of minor stoppages (lac - only on the eye, exchange poloos), the doors are original, still runs on the original engines outside of cut (inserts) and repair as klikovky, transmissions, differentials, clutches etc
3, the Pace of the masked - two years ago to be replaced by the owner of the Uherské Hradiště to France for a luxury saloon and the balance of the (as far as I know)
4, the Pace of the undocumented - perhaps it is still in Mníšek pod Brdy, a total wreck without the rear of the engine, had a replacement engine with 3 speed gearbox, which is used for the Pace of the A600, E600, the owner had inadequate pricing requirements
5, the Pace of the other - find a Showroom Koncicky
Well-being, the more information I provide.

I think (but I'm not sure that "lešanské" was also přebarveno to gray) Addition of UH it's a shame it was in decent shape (except a carrier that the owner of the udělalpodle photos(I had no idea that it's about post-war Swedish adaptation)
On pace 5) I know, it's in pretty crappy, but it seems like a complete state. number 4) I don't know.
The Swedish rate was reportedly longer (I never did find out how much) the swedes bought them as tractors for anti-tank kanonům and were six-digit (in the picture it's pretty interesting to see 6 people in a fairly small car)
For any additional information I am of course interested, as well as probably other colleagues..

Hi
The 6-digit temps were +- 30 numbers longer, I didn't know about the carrier either, so we washed it from a colleague in Sweden and UH from us Smile . I have a promotional video from SWE (WWII) on VHS, where Tempa rides quite a lot even with a cannon and behaves very well in the field (I don't have the possibility to save it to my comp yet). When the scanner is available I am able to scan almost complete drawings and parts lists, service book and photos I took in SWE in 1997.
A good story came out in Wheels & Tracks magazine once, I have it available.
So long and Temps especially

The pace in Brazil : the beginning of the 40 years it was in the context of the motorization of the local army ordered several cars of the Tempo G1200. Arrived probably in 1940 (I don't have it verified but the later delivery is unlikely), at least one car was in this year photographed at the parade. The total number is not known but must have been at least two cars, because the two Tempos are captured on the photo from the arsenal in Rio de Janeiro next picture shows the one Pace at the parade in the same city, but can go on one of the above mentioned cars.

In terms of the carrier at the Rates it's about post-war Swedish adaptation, the army after the war sold the Rate in civilian clothes, and here they were used as taxis aprotože do not have the space for luggage was on them mounted carrier. There have also been several other modifications but not chariots. (he was one of the abbreviated two-seater car).

I should be surprised that in sweden the Pace driven as a taxi (for the conditions my car with a canvas roof comes somewhat exotic but it's probably due to the lack of cars in the country. In the service is apparently replaced the Volvo.

Apparently it was the normal "military" machines.
Other countries where it was the Pace of the tested was probably the Chile, so the fact that there were just over 1300, it was very widely extended (albeit only in individual pieces). If so far I know was in Germany, in Denmark, Finland, Romania, Sweden, LitvěČíně, Mexico, Chile and Brazil. There is also information exports to CZECHOSLOVAKIA, but I am not sure whether it is not about the confusion with the poválečnými machine preserved for us..

Due to the fact that often we refer to the article in the Wheels+Tracks, here I attach a translation of it...

PACE - military vehicles of the company Vidal and son, Hamburg

One of the most spectacular off-road vehicles ever to be mass produced, is without a doubt the German two-engined Tempo G 1200 firm Vidal and son of Hamburg, which was founded in the mid-30tých years and in the limelight of the interest of the motorists was in the opening 2. in world war ii.

The history of the above-mentioned type begins at the end of the year 1920, when in a tiny berlin továrničce Rinne Motorgesellschaft began the production of motor tricycles, with the body at the front behind the front axle and with the motorcycle the driver's seat and the engine before the rear wheel. Production of this type, known as Pace, was only one machine per week. Yet it is very important that its users were Max Vidal and his son Oskar, traders of coal from the town of Vandsbek near Hamburg. Those are about the production of vehicles of this type began to be interested, to become a regional brand vendors Pace and in 1928 they stopped selling coal and take the technology as well as machinery equipment. Tříkolé vehicle and its configuration was modified by the former air chief designer Otto Dausem and already in 1930, has begun production of the modernised type T6. For vehicles T6 in 1933 joined T6 Front (the engine and the driven wheel in the front), it was a real, albeit small, of a freight car with a sleek two-seat cabin and the option of fitting one or two of the engine. !!! Production of this type continued after the war until 1961, when it was manufacturing plant moved to India. !!!
Otto Daus in the years of the economic rise of Germany suggested also 4 refrigerator and dishwasher adaptation under the name E600, with an engine of 600 cc and with independent suspension front wheels. From the E600 has already been such a long way to the first truly off-road car of the company Vidal and son.
In such a really an off-road car of the company Vidal and son became the G1200 (Gelandewagen, 1200 ccm), made in 1933. Although, for example, drive wheel G1200 was from a mechanical point of view absolutely identical with the E600, the G1200 was interesting just a duplication of the power units for propulsion of the rear axle. In order to achieve the best possible contact with the ground was the front of the drive unit with the raceways of the wheels stored kyvně on the axis of the pipe frame, the rear engine was stored hardcoded. Between the two axles was in the middle of the stored third axis with the reserves, which helped to overcome the terrain irregularities (embankments and ditches).
Though at first glance the fragile structure of the vehicle could seem for the harsh military service as inappropriate, the opposite proved true. Driving with vehicle in the hands of an experienced driver has been excellent both on the roads and in the field.
The date of manufacture of the first piece, a Tempo G 1200 is almost coincided with the date of death of the elder owner of the company, mr Max Vidal. His son Oscar enlisted as a shareholder in the firm of his brother Herbert and jointly launched the production of a new type with an exemplary effort and entusiasmem. After all, the world yet again zbrojil! Type Tempo G1200 was patented in 1938 under the number 480 585 and the numbers of sold cars (not only G1200) were staggering: in the year 1935 sold to 10 000. ks, in 1937, then 25 000. ks (these numbers were achieved through large investments in advertising and promotional tours practically all over the world). The Wehrmacht played the role of a dead beetle and favored private development of off-road vehicles. In the course of the war, however, has occurred even to the requisitions of vehicles from civilian users and for example in the Italian Gedi were Allies found 3 pieces of the Tempo G1200, most of the vehicles have been used, paradoxically, not Wehrmachtem, but the SS, Luftwaffe and even the Kriegsmarine. Let us return, however, back before the war.
The French government bought in 1937 12 pcs G1200 for troop tests, and according to contemporary sources, it was ordered 300 pieces for the needs of the French ground troops (perhaps should be introduced also license production), to the implementation of the contract has occurred.
The largest users have become Romania and Sweden. The manufacturer in the year 1937, although stated that the vehicle Tempo G1200 are being used in 40 states, but it is almost certain that the majority of foreign users owned only one or a few units of vehicles of this type, as a rule, after the tests and in private hands. Also the British ministry of war possessed since 1937 1 vehicle G1200 (contract V3023) with a military registration M375522. The car was tested in military training areas on the territory of the county of Hampshire and North Wales, the result of tests, it was not possible to find out.
The kingdom of the netherlands was the test in the summer of 1937 also only 1 piece of the G1200 serial number G56548, the vehicle was in Holland probably only lent. The results of the tests were very positive with the exception of the evaluation of transportation capacity (tonnage) and the traction force of a hinge. Therefore, the Dutch prefer to Chevroletům and Fordům with trailers DAF.
It is interesting to say the least, literally, to quote a newspaper column, published in 1938, in one English newspaper:
"In no less than 39 countries around the world, we can find an interesting car, whose astonishing useful properties and capabilities have led to consternation and surprise of all who had the opportunity to meet with him. It is all-terrain car of the Pace, developed by the German engineer Otto Dausem. The fact that the manufacturer sells the car in 19 european countries (including Germany), 8 countries of America and in 7 asian states, in Australia and 4 countries of the african continent, indicates that this car must be something extremely special. Variants, in which the Pace is delivered can be difficult to calculate. The vehicle, which calmly can carry the designation of all-terrain acrobat, it is appropriate for farmers, geologists, forest guardian, a rural doctor, the police - in short, for all those who have to ride in the field, on unpaved roads, and everywhere there, where other vehicles neprojedou. The pace may, however, honosit sporting achievements, for example, in this year's Three-day mountain driving mountains of the Harz were among the 350 participating cars divided only 73 prices, among the winners were also two of Pace, which arrived safely without losing a single point.“
In the hands of an experienced driver was G1200 wonderful toy and great for an all terrain vehicle, if managed sensitively and not přetěžováno. Transport capacity and the ability to pull the trailer were indeed limited, despite the great publicity for example, the Swedish army requested a vehicle to rebuild: there has been an extension of the wheelbase to 3220 mm, in order to carry 6 people and tow an anti-gun, all with original engine 1188 ccm and power of 38 PC at the maximum operating speed.
Quite interesting is also the result of the tests, that the Tempo G1200 were in the hands of Joachim Fischer, editor of the German motorsports magazine Motor-Kritiek. In September 1938, with the car drove through the roads or in the field, more than 17 000 km and in the magazine then published his observations and opinions:
"The maximum speed of the Tempo G1200 reaches (without undue rewind motor) 68km/h (on 1 engine 65 km/h), surpassing the 290 climb (bedrock hard lawn) and 380 descent (subsoil gravel). Acceleration quite readily from 20 to 60 km/h 15 s (for 1 engine 51s), the braking distance during deceleration from 30 km/h to 0 km/h 4 m. From the point of view of the general characteristics of it comes to a lightweight multipurpose vehicle, easy to operate while driving down the road or in the field, with very good driving characteristics. Undemanding in care, with low financial demands, the cost is relatively low thanks to the use of time in the operation of certified components. Both propulsion units are fully equipped, while driving can be used by either of them or both at the same time, the propulsion units are virtually identical, for the drive are as well as the gear quite noisy. The smooth bottom of the vehicle with the central tubular frame. The controls in the usual configuration with the controls on the center tunnel, the driver's seat can not be moved to the right. Both reserves are to be assembled, in overcoming terrain obstacles can act as a wheel support/auxiliary. The vehicle is appropriate for the armed forces, driving in the terrain, use in forestry, construction and everywhere, where are required good driving properties and high clearness. The vehicle has a good hold on the hard and rozměklém terrain has somewhat reduced the maximum speed and acceleration capability, high clearness is given to the relatively large rejdem (especially at the front axle) and the high lift suspension. The coupling of the two propulsion units and the control rod accel in constant shot. Suspension is (surprisingly) soft, the vehicle moves in a balanced manner even in the worst of off road conditions when driving on the roads has a somewhat hard. Brakes simple, mechanical, efficient even when driving in the field. Both transmissions have a control lever for shifting on the center of the tunnel in close proximity, 4 gears of both gearboxes can be ordered separately or at the same time (after connection of the levers with a simple lock), the shifting is light, whether is ranked the speed of one or both transmissions. The vehicle is driven by slight turning of the front wheels, after the elimination of the closing date of the differential of the rear axle can be rotated and the rear wheels in the opposite direction. Management of the rear axle is not possible to separately, can be used only at low speed, usually in difficult terrain. Armament of the vehicle is somewhat spartánská, fully sufficient. The seats are simple, solid, without adjustable seat backs.
Control devices are placed in the middle of the dashboard, the speedometer is unsatisfactory. The vehicle does not have luggage space, on the basis of the request may be a basket on the luggage placed above the hood of the rear of the power unit. Switching the lights switch on the floor, dominated by the feet of the driver. Rear-view mirror is placed on the hledacím lamp. The windscreen is in the frame divided by the, glass, security, dual windshield wipers. In the kit armament is a tow-rope, wedges and a spade. Additional equipment is not placed.“
The original price of the Tempo G1200 was 4100 imperial marek, from the year 1938 amounted to 4600 imperial mark. The only customers offered improvements to the basic model of the Tempo G1200 was perhaps fitting metal door in place of the standard canvas detachable flexible screens, the cost of this modification was the 150 - mark. This adjustment was made on all "Swedish Term" as one of the elements of the "arktizace".
The total was made 1253 vehicles Tempo G1200, starting with serial number 1263 001 and ending with the number 1264 253 (factory číslovala manufactured vehicles of all types gradually, in one row) as follows: 168 cars in the beginning of the year 1939, in the year 1939 produced 116, in 1940, made 347, in 1941, made 139, in 1942, made 165, in 1943, made 211 in 1944 produced only 7. The remaining 100 vehicles was probably adapted as a saloon (a luxury or royal version), vans or trucks. The factory numbering on does not distinguish whether it was a vehicle with standard wheelbase (2830 mm), or with the wheelbase extended (3220 mm, šestisedadlová option for the Swedish armed forces). The number of extended vehicle while not negligible - in Sweden, there were delivered more than 400 of this number are then delivered probably 120 to Ethiopia and the rest were after the war in 1948 to sell off civilian users. Part of these vehicles were for civilian purposes, adjusted by disassembling the rear of the power unit (used as a source of spare parts) and installing the cargo of the hull, the delivery body or the simple platform.
Some users in Sweden even govern their Pace as taxis and zkracovali is simply by cutting out the center part with the reserves. Of these the "Swedish Temp" has been preserved to only two extended-wheelbase (in more or less original condition) and approximately another dozen such wrecks or amateurish reduced the vehicle for civilian use.

Source: the magazine of the Wheels+Tracks no 30

From the content of the article thus implies that the metal door was fitted to the wishes of the civilian customer, where appropriate, have been manufactured by yourself. On military vehicles could, therefore, have to appear only in the case when a vehicle has been zrekvírováno for the needs of the WH, WL, KM or SS. By default, the metal door is assembled at a military Tempo G1200 with extended wheelbase (arktizovaná version for the Swedish armed forces).

A shortened version could not be used in the 2. world war, as it was a amateur adjustment for vehicles with extended wheelbase of surplus Swedish armed forces, the sale of which was launched in 1948..

Thanks for the exhaustive translation Laughing I'm still struck by one fact, and that the opportunity to buy these vehicles during the war to the private sector and therefore on the customer to perform the adjustment of the introduction of the door. Anyone have any more detailed information in this direction? Thanks in advance #Shocked.

Well, it's that the car could be at war normally buy is not so strange, did not belong to the standard of the Wehrmacht so it was seen as a civilian vehicle. Well and civilian vehicles for war normally sold, the one who bought the Pace you might be able to point him to buy need Opel Cadet (which would be about anyone of us it wouldn't surprise) now the Pace we perceive as a military car, but it's probably for the war was not. This is also the reason that the smaller numbers of vehicles sold to the SS (SS for quite a long time, could buy only what did not want the army, only later it changed, likewise originally received substandard weapons, to be Czech) or it they have obviously gone for the war sold to the Pace in Sweden. Simply own the army did not want and got into it just as the distrained vehicle from civilian sources (this started to occur until later) If we compare the numbers of units produced is based on us that the Swedish order has been executed until sometime at the end of the year 1940, or in 1941, that is, until in the time of war. Up to the year 1942 had not been in germany a greater effort after the introduction of managed production, basically they just introduced some of the standards (need chassis) but the vehicle by the factory developed independently, and the army have from them ordered according to their liking. It is quite possible that the indifference of the army to the Pace he had a reason in the price, which was high enough and small capacity production. Comparable VW Koffer was significantly cheaper, and in the field with the Pace of the did not enter.
I think that more interesting is that the Pace of there and into such exotic countries as Brazil and apparently there delivered to the individual pieces long enough to run. at least one piece (it seems that the standard length) is in Finland, where during the war he would go, so far I failed to find out how many pieces there were all together..

Diskuse

I'm sending a copy of the 4.the website of the Slovak automotive magazine of the second world war, on which there is a mention of the vehicles, the Pace, how there at that time were offered for sale. If I remember, they were there to buy the car Praga Lady with a redesigned company feature on the Orava Lady. Field Rate were tested at the regiment's assault chariot in Turčianskom Svätom Martin, but to the field services will probably not fall, as in the book "Slovak army 1939-1945" by Charles K.Clement and Břetislava Treated ,with a detailed description of the rolling stock of the then Slovak army, cars of Pace are not included ..
