The need for large calibre self-propelled guns led to one of the other, emergency solutions, the use of the Pz.Kpfw.II chassis as a carrier for a heavy field howitzer s.I.G.33 of 150 mm calibre. The first prototype was based on the classic Pz.Kpfw.II chassis, but due to its considerable weight s.I.G.33, the production cars were built on its extended chassis by one running wheel and the tub was widened by 32cm. Even so, this type, with its high weight, low mobility and inadequate crew protection, was inadequate, inefficient and expensive to produce - rebuild. Therefore, only 12 units were built by Alkett (7 units in 12/1941 and 5 units in 1/1942) and the development of a machine of similar concept was concentrated on the heavier chassis Pz.Kpfw.III and Pz.Kpfw.IV.
The vehicles fought in Africa and within s.I.G.Kp.(mot S) 707 and s.I.G.Kp.(mot S) 708 (6.pcs of machines in each unit).
The s.I.G.Kp.(mot S) 708 arrived by ship at Tripoli in 2/1942 and ss.I.G.Kp.(mot S) 707 in 4/1942. The units were assigned to the Leichte Infanterie Regimentsin the 90th Leichte Division.
As of 23 October 1942, 8 more of this self-propelled machine survived, when they took part in the Battle of El Alamein. As of 2.12.1942, however, all the machines were lost. One machine captured by the British was later in the arsenal of the Egyptian army, which used it in 1948 in the war against Israel (there is unsubstantiated information that they even had 3-4 of them).

Diskuse

It's not "some bucket" Smile it's a canvas bucket with a pouring spout, it can be folded flat (it's a circle) and when it's full of water the canvas stiffens and it stands on its own. Here it's not hanging on the barrel, but on the side of the brake cover. Smile
