Born 20.10.1906 in Voitberg in Styria, 1929 officer-in-waiting in the Austrian Federal Army, 1931 lieutenant and platoon commander in Pi.Btl. 4 and later Pi.Ausb.Btl. 1939 Polish campaign as commander of 2./mot. Pi.Btl. 32 in 2nd (mot). infantry division. In the western campaign he participated in the breakthrough to the Lamansk Canal, numerous battles on river frontages and against bunkers. In January 1941, when the division was changed to 12th Panzer, he remained with the unit. He took courses for fast troops and tank engineers. In the summer of 1941 he was not at the front, but as a captain was an engineer officer on the staff of Army Group Nord. In early 1942, as a major, he took command of Pz.Pi.Btl. 51 in the 23rd Panzer Division. Deployed at Voronezh, wounded twice. In summer 1942 acting commander of Pz.Gren.Rgt. 126 in the same division. For his special achievements in the Caucasus he received the Knight's Cross on 04.10.1942. 02/1943 retreat to the Kuban bridgehead. Then withdrawn to Germany, in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel lectured at the Engineer Officer School Pesserossa, in the autumn of 1944 commander of the Engineer School Regensburg. Attempts to transfer to the front were unsuccessful. 02/1945 staff officer to the General of Engineers at OKH, 05/ 1945 - 1946 captured by the Western Allies. 1956 Lieutenant Colonel of the 2nd Austrian Federal Army, 1957 as Colonel in charge of the construction of the 3rd Austrian Federal Army. 1971 retirement, died 08.09.1978 in Krems.
