He was born on September 28, 1921 in Schaßlowitz in Czechoslovakia as the son of a teacher. After joining the NSDAP he fled to Germany, service in the Sudeten German Freikorps, 1938 joining the SS Verfüg.Truppe. Polish campaign in the rank of Unterfhr in the 15th (Kradschützen) Kpn./Rgt. Germany. In May 1940 he was sent to an officer's course. 10.04.1941 Ustuf. in Russia he commanded a platoon in the reconnaissance section of the SS Wiking division. After two days of fighting, he was awarded the Iron Cross of both classes. Wounded twice by October 1941. After enlisting in the tank army from 02/1942, he commanded a platoon in the tank section Das Reich. He fought near Ržev and Kharkov, in the winter of 1942/43 in a course at the Drbien training ground, later he taught himself. Winter 1943/44 commanded the company 7. (Panther) /Pz.Rgt. 5 Wiking. After numerous successes on November 9, 1943, he was promoted to Ostuf., Fighting in the cauldron near Cherkasy, near Kovel. During the breakthrough attack, he destroyed 28 enemy cannons, one tank and 8 anti-aircraft guns, thus enabling a successful breakthrough of the battle group Gille - for these deeds he received the Knight's Cross on 04.05.1944. Fighting ensued in Poland and Hungary, most recently as Hstuf. - Commander of the last battle group with tanks in the Wiking division. In May 1945, he and several friends escaped captivity on their own. After a shootout with the US military, he was long considered missing. In fact, he settled under a different name in Germany. At his mother's second wedding, he took the name of his stepfather, Schneider-Kunze, and graduated from the University of Agriculture and Forestry. He was successful in the field and, thanks to his new name, he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on a ribbon as a government adviser for hunting (which he would not otherwise have passed as a member of the SS). He died on November 6, 2001 in Bayerbach, Bavaria.
