He was born 26.08.1922 in Mährisch-Neustadt (Unicov) in Czechoslovakia as a son of a professor. 1940/41 fighter training, in summer 1942 as a lieutenant in I./JG 53 in Russia. Flew without victory until October before being transferred to 9./JG 3, first success in May 1943. After twelve more kills he transferred with his squadron to Germany where he flew against the US bomber corps. 04.11.1943 as a lieutenant took command of the 9th squadron, followed by further successes against four-engined aircraft. Thanks to a shrapnel he lost an eye. Still, thanks to his persuasion, he was again recognized by the front, but after several years again in the infirmary. While recovering, he received the Luftwaffe Honor Cup, German Cross in Gold (16.04.1944) in 08/1944 he commanded the 10th Squadron (shortly afterwards renamed the 13th) at JG 3 Udet and again flew against bomber formations. In heavy deployments with his Fw 190, he shot down eleven bombers and an escort fighter. On 16.08.1944, he rammed one B-17 (25th Air Victory) near Albshausen, Hesse, and was killed in the ensuing machine crash. Five months later on 14.01.1945 he was posthumously awarded the Knight's Cross and promoted to Captain.
