Kreuzer, Franz
He was born on September 21, 1918 in Thomasdorf in the Austrian part of Silesia as one of the seven children of a local farmer. 01.1939 drafted into the army. 1940 on the Western Front, 1941 with 123. infantry division joined the inaugural offensive in the east. 11.1941 as a freelancer awarded the Iron Cross Class II. fought in the Demjan promontory. 9.1942 as a non-commissioned officer and team commander awarded the Iron Cross Class I. in the ranks 3./Gren.Rgt. 89. After positional fighting during the winter of 1942/43 at the head of his remaining few men several days of defense in heavy Soviet attacks for which he was awarded the badge for destroying the tank up close and 15.1.1943 Knight's Cross, promoted to the rank of Feldwebel, after injury 3.1943 in the field hospital. It is not known whether Kreuzer fought on the front line again. He survived the war, then lived in East Germany for years before escaping to West Germany. He died in Trier on April 3, 1983.
