Při cvičném letu došlo k nehodě srílanského vrtulníku Mi-24P (reg. CH635) vinou technické závady. K nehodě došlo v 13:30 místního času 5 km severně od města Buttala.


Stroj patřil 9. letce útočných vrtulníků ze základny SLAF Hingurakgoda.


Při nehodě zahynuli:
