Dnešný deň sa v Rusku slávi výročie vzniku ruskej milície(ekvivalent polície).
Prvá ruská polícia vznikla v ruskej ríši za vlády cára Petra I. v r.1715 kedy založil službu ochrany verejného poriadku ktorú nazval políciou. V r.1802 (08.09.) za vlády Alexandra I. vzniklo Ministerstvo vnútra Ruského impéria. Premenovanie polície na milíciu pochádza z čias Veľkej októbrovej socialistickej revolúcie(VOSR), kedy 10.11.1917 tzv. Národný komisariát pre vnútorné záležitosti miesto bývalej polície impéria určil na ochranu verejného poriadku tzv. milíciu(z lat. militia - vojsko).
