February 18, 1945 in the rank of Feldwebel and platoon commander 3./Pz.Gren.Rgt.41 awarded the Knight's Cross and promoted to Oberfeldwebel. After heavy losses, the division continued to fight only as a divisional combat group, the last combat deployments on the Nisa and in the Old Mountains, in 05.1945 still appointed lieutenant in the reserve, then fell into US captivity. Released after a few months, he learned of the death of his father, who had been killed by Czech guerrillas right after the end of the war. In civilian life, he worked as a bank clerk, in 1978 he retired.
