Major General Bruno Gerloch
He was born on November 11, 1890 in Těšín as the son of an R-U customs officer. From 1907 he joined the cadet school of artillery Traiskirchen. 1914 Lieutenant in R-U 14th Artillery Regiment. During World War II, he proved himself in various artillery units on the Italian front, a total of six times awarded (also by the German EKI). He ended the war with the rank of lieutenant and battery commander. He was wounded twice during the war. In the Austrian post-war army he continued to serve in the artillery, 1921 captain in the brigade artillery division 1. 1928 promoted to major, 1933 teacher at the artillery school, 1938 at the riding and driving school of the army. Taken over to the Wehrmacht as a major and division commander of the 12th Artillery Regiment. At the outbreak of World War II, the commander of II./mot. Art. Rgt. 116 within the 5th PD. He was soon promoted to lieutenant colonel, took command of mot.Art.Rgt. 90 in 10. PD. He received the Knight's Cross on September 4, 1940 for an excellent certificate during the Western campaign (among others, the conquest of Sedan, Calais, as well as the tank battle at Bulson). February 1, 1941 promoted to colonel. On the Eastern Front, the division was deployed near Minsk and Smolensk. During the winter battle near Moscow, Gerloch was wounded by a fragment of a hand grenade that seriously injured his legs. He was treated in infirmaries and hospitals until 11.1942. then until 1944 Commander of Artillery 2 and 117 on the Atlantic Wall in France. He proved himself on the invasion front in 08.1944 where he was given command of the 708th Infantry Division and during its destruction at Le Mand-Lavel reported missing. As a result, his promotion to major general was postponed. Eventually, Gerloch emerged unscathed from the siege and was transferred to the leader's reserve. In 1945 he successfully commanded a divisional combat group on the Western Front and April 20, 1945 he was finally promoted to major general. 1947 released from captivity. He died on September 7, 1954 in Vienna.
