On the basis of the Tank Plan, various designs of ammunition carriers and then tankers for escorting tank units began to be built in the USSR in the early 1930s. In order to have the same or similar throughput as the escorted vehicles, they were designed on the chassis of these vehicles.
TC-26
TC-26 was created in 1935 in plant No.185 Imeni Kirova in Leningrad by modifying a TR-4 as a tanker for transporting gasoline and lubricants. The box-shaped, riveted body with 10 mm thick armor, located in the middle on the chassis of the T-26 tank, contained two tanks with a total capacity of 1,300 kg. The total weight of the vehicle was 9,400 kg, the crew of two men sitting in front of the tanks had a DT 7.62 mm machine gun in the front armour.
TR-26C
A second vehicle was produced at the same plant a year later. In the middle of the hull of the T-26 was a transversely mounted 1,900 litre cylindrical tank. The interesting-looking vehicle had a weight of 10,000 kg, a two-man crew positioned and armed in the same way as in the TC-26, and completely unsatisfactory off-road handling (the TC-26 was not much better). With a specific power of 6.6 kW/t, there is nothing to be surprised about.
The production of 90 tank vehicles was planned, but, as it happened in the land of the Soviets, it did not take place.
