The brigade is a large light infantry unit, mainly usable in inaccessible terrain, climatic conditions where no other approach is possible. It is organized and equipped to be deployed in the shortest possible time wherever it is needed, using any kind of movement, preferably by air.
It has air defence, anti-aircraft protection, firepower and local logistical support, and is usable in offensive as well as defensive operations. It is an ideal element for airlift operations.
It was formed on 24 January 1966 as part of Military Region 8, as part of the Immediate Intervention Force. It is formed in La Coruña as the Infantry Aerotransport Brigade. The unit had all parts in La Coruña except the 2nd Battalion of the Infantry Aerotransport "Isabel la Catolica″ No 29 in Santiago de Compostela.
On 7.6.1969 the unit carried out the first airborne exercise "AZOR I″. In 1983 the brigade participated in the repair of bridges in Xistral and in 1987 in Negreira, operations to rescue the ships Erkowit 1971 and Cason 1987. 7.5.1984 the unit was visited by His Majesty Don Juan Carlos I and a demonstration of the aeromobile unit was carried out at the Alverdo airport.
In 1987, under the META plan, the components based in La Coruña and Santiago de Compostela are transferred to Pontevedra.
On 1 January 1988 this large unit changes its designation to Light Aerial Infantry Brigade, and is incorporated into the "Principe″ No 3 Regiment, based in Asturias. By Ministerial Order 84/1994 of 8 September 1994, this brigade begins to form part of the Rapid Reaction Force, together with the Airborne Brigade, the Legion Brigade and the "Lusitania″ No 8 Regiment. From 1.7.1996 the Brigade starts to be known as the Light Aerial Infantry Brigade "Galicia" VII.
In 2002 it helped to repair the aftermath of the Prestige tanker wreck and also provided support (kitchen, transport, housing) to the other units involved in the work.
2004 Participates in Operation Romeo-Mike protecting the railway lines from terrorist attacks.

In 1997 it is definitely organized from:
- Command
- Command Support Battalion
- Light Aerial Infantry Regiment "Principe″ No 3
* Battalion of Light Aerial Infantry "San Quintín″ No I/3
* Light Aerial Infantry Battalion "Toledo″ No II/3
