The AMD 65 is the Hungarian version of the AKM designed for armoured vehicle crews and paratroopers. The rifle was introduced to the arsenal in 1967. The barrel is equipped with a muzzle brake of Hungarian design. The folding stock is also of its own design. The weapon has no upper receiver, the underarm is made of perforated sheet metal and a second handle is screwed to the lower part of the weapon to facilitate the control of the weapon when firing a burst. Magazines for 20 and 30 rounds are introduced to the weapon, a 40 round magazine for RPK cannot be inserted into the weapon due to the front grip. The firing switch has the positions locked, burst firing (marked 00) and single shot (marked 1).
