VVS RF budú modernizovať bombardéry strategického letectva, t.j. Tu - 95MS, Tu - 160 a Tu - 22M3. Modernizácia sa dotkne aj frontového letectva s cieľom neutralizovať možné bojové hrozby, povedal Hlavný komisár VVS RF gen. plk. A. Zelin.
Modernizované budú lietadlá ktoré majú dostatočný rezurz letohodín, ostatné sa postupne dokúpia z perspektívnych generácii 4+ , 4++ a aktuálne unifikov. strojov 5. generácie.
