Byl jím Václav Vojtěch a stalo se tak s výpravou amerického admirála Richarda Evelyna Byrda. Po mnoha odmítnutích dostat se do výpravy byl nakonec přijat jako topič na jeho zásobovací lodi "Eleanor Bolling". Loď vyplula 1. prosince 1928.
