Kawanishi E5K1
Brief history: In the second half of 1931, the 川西航空機株式会社 - Kawanishi Kōkūki Kabushiki Kaisha in Naruo was entrusted with the construction and further development of the Yokosuka E5Y floatplane reconnaissance aircraft. These aircraft have just completed trials and the Yokosuka Naval Arsenal has achieved acceptance into the Naval Air Force's armament under the designation "Type 90-3 float reconnaissance aircraft". The Kawanishi factory designers suggested several changes before the actual construction, and the Navy then recognized that these changes were so substantial that they changed the aircraft's designation to Kawanishi E5K1 90-3. The design changes made included a powerplant swap, a licensed Bristol Jupiter VIII nine-cylinder engine was installed instead of the inline W-cylinder engine, a change eventually made by the Yokosuka Naval Arsenal to their E5Y1 aircraft. At Kawanishi they still modified the vertical tailplane, which was raised. In total, the Kawanishi Kokuki K was factory-built. K. in Nauruo built 17 E5K1s, these aircraft reached the end of their service life in the late 1930s and were replaced by more modern machines Kawanishi E7K.
