M1151

In 2000 launched the us army (US Army) program renewal of its fleet in the sector of light tactical vehicles. This year has been slowly ended estimated teenage life of the first produced car series HMMVW, which from the production line to come from the year 1985. According to the original plans should be the oldest Humvee go through overhaul associated with the installation of some new parts (mainly engine and other parts of the powertrain). Eventually, it turned out that this solution would be due to the end result was prohibitively expensive, and so is the army, together with the marines (US Marine Corps), it opted for the purchase of new vehicles Humvee generation A2.

This decision, however, did not last very long, because in the further development affected the combat experience of operation Iraqi freedom. On the basis of the regulation of the chief of staff of the us army from February 2004 should be the majority of military vehicles in this category, having armoured or at least to the rapid armor customized. In that time they have already produced the armored variant M1114, which originated on the basis of the lessons learned from the peacekeeping operations of the u.s. armed forces from the first half of the nineties (the vehicle was designed so that its crew and passengers survived the blast 5,45 kg (12 lb) mines under the front axle, the explosion of 1.18 kg (4 lb) mines under the rear axle, the doors of the vehicle should withstand the intervention of the protipancéřovou ammunition caliber 7,62 mm from a distance of 100 metres).
Programme for the substitution of light tactical vehicles launched in the year 2000, so eventually resulted in the vehicle M1151 (version for the transport of persons / carrier armament) and M1152 (the version for the carriage of cargo / carrier box body), which arose on the basis of the model M1114. In the case of the army was M1151, with a total payload of 1.9 tons, planned primarily as a successor to the vehicles M1025 / M1026.

Dynamic and ballistic tests of the prototype XM1151 have taken place in the summer of 2005, the series production was launched in July of the same year. For the first month of production expected making around 29 vehicles. The first M1151 were the troops in Iraq, delivered probably in march 2006. The u.s. marine corps introduced the M1151 into his arms in February 2007, mainly as a replacement for the older variants of the M1043 / M1044.

M1151 was created on the basis of the version of the M1114, for which there has been amplification of the structure. Among the main objectives was to make most of the armor protection has been a demountable (u M1114 is installed on a permanent basis). In the case of the peaceful use would be eliminated, which would reduce the load of the vehicle structure and prolong its service life. The armor was also designed so that its pegged / droop no need for lifting equipment, special products and tools and to make this operation could be effected only by the crew of the car. Part of the armor (called the set A (or A1), also known as the integrated armor protection (IAP - the Integrated Armor Protection)) on the weight of 318 kg is installed permanently already from the manufacturer, especially in poorly accessible parts of the car (part of the floor, the motor bulkhead). The set B (or B1) to form the rest of the armor (doors, windows, ceiling, etc), which can be mounted directly by the user. The supplier sets a And B is Armor Holdings. For vehicles with both types of armor are used designations M1151P1.

The sets their a And B has been developed another type of armor known as the Frag, designed primarily to protect from the effects of improvised explosive traps. Frag 1 improves the protection of the flanks of the vehicle and the door, Frag 2 protects the scuttle and the area of the fenders, Frag 5 is again determined to the armor protection of the vehicle door.

Other adjustments include three-point safety belts, seats more durable in the explosion of the mines, or air conditioning.

M1151 designed for the us army with machine guns M2, M60, M240B, M249 and grenade launchers Mk.19.

New M1151 intended for service in Iraq first arrived at the base Camp Arifjan in Kuwait, where they were inspected, tested their functionality and according to the actual needs in Iraq have been accompanied by the necessary equipment and weaponry.

All of the M1151, however, does not come from novovýroby, a portion of which arises as a result of the overhaul of vehicles M1114. In the case of M1114 serving in Iraq, the whole process begins with the fact that the car is from a combat unit moved under the Army headquarters maintenance (Army Sustainment Command) in Kuwait, from where they ship travels to a repair plant in the United states. Here the car is browsed, completely odstrojen and again browsed. After otryskání travels to the assembly line, where is equipped on the version of the M1151 last of the serial implementation.

The price of one M1151 with the beginning of the year 2008 was at the level of the 347 000 dollars.
