Ilustrovaná encyklopedie českých hradů - Tomáš Durdík

Diskuse

The book of the Czech castelologist and archaeologist Tomáš Durdík encyclopedically gives overviews of Czech castles in alphabetical order, also explains the terms and briefly outlines their development and typology. It contains a number of illustrations, whether photographs (contemporary and historical), pictorial reproductions, or material reconstructions of castles, not to mention purely architectural plans or depicting the surrounding terrain. An important part is also a list of essential works about the castle, which are unbreakable in the case of further study. The book has a number of editions, however, the only fundamental change is only the cover, then only the publishing data is changed, but the book itself is unchanged, including errors and new literature or fundamental findings. These are contained in successively published supplements, here is listed other literature, usually new or that has been omitted. In the event that there has been a change in the knowledge of castles, these information is also listed there and the illustrative appendices are expanded.

Citace - Standa :

The book by Czech castellanologist Tomáš Durdík...

So this really nice typo amused me a lot Very Happy
But come to think of it, some of the castellans I know might be worth establishing a special branch of science - castellanology Laughing
Mr Durdik is of course "only" a castellologist.

But something important about the mentioned book. Mr. Durdík's work is so extensive, and the topic almost inexhaustible, that three Supplements to the Illustrated Encyclopedia of Czech Castles!!
The last ones are appearing on the shelves of bookstores these days.

Mr. Durdík is of course a castelologist and although I do not want to deny his undoubtedly significant contribution, it is far from being just the results of his work, but the sum of knowledge from the whole field

Well, I've fixed the bug.
Otherwise, as for the supplements - and not necessarily to this publication - e.g. Waldhauser's Encyclopedia of the Celts etc. - they are certainly good, but the main data as well as the general overview of all (more or less) data is always only in the original encyclopedia - the supplements contain only additions or corrections with necessary additions.
