RNAS Abbotsinch / HMS Sanderling - originally an RAF base (from 1933), the base was earmarked for the Royal Navy on 11.08.1943. Taken over by the Naval Air Service on 20.09.1943. During WW2 used as air depots and repair workshops.


After 1945 the base was used as a storage port for storage of Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve squadron aircraft, the Naval Air Force abandoned the base in October 1963 (10/1963).

In the 1960s, the base became the basis for the present Glasgow International Airport.
