PFM-1 and PFM-1S anti-personnel mines
Soviet PFM-type anti-personnel landmines were used extensively by the Soviets in Afghanistan and, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, in the fighting between Azerbaijanis and Armenians. The weapon was also reportedly used in Chechnya, Iraq and Somalia.
Designation

The mine, after being ejected from the shipping container, is initiated by rotation and subsequent impact. The mine structure is plastic and contains liquid explosive. Some types are marked with the letter 'S', indicating the possibility of self-destruction after 24 to 40 hours.
