He flew in: StG2, LG1



In 1936 he joined the Luftwaffe. In August 1938 he was transferred to the rank of Leutnant to I./StG165. In 1939 it is in the I./StG76.
03.07.1940 is already in the rank of Oblt. transferred to the Air Force School in Graz. September 26, 1941 is transferred to the Eastern Front to 1./StG2. After the death of the commander of the 2nd/StG2, he became its commander on March 18, 1942.
Ritterkreuztragerem becomes 30.12.1942 as Hauptmann a Staffelkapitän3./ StukaG 2 "Immelmann" u. Adj. I./SG 2. At that time he had 461 combat flights and destroyed 20 tanks, 18 cars, 10 bridges and 2 armored vehicles.


In the autumn of 1943, a unit equipped with heavy Ju 88 was newly created in the St.G 2 set. . It is Richard Czekay who becomes its commander. This unit officially passes to II./LG1 24.6.1944.


From 16.05.1944 Hauptmann Czekay becomes commander of I./LG1. Between 02.07.1944 to 25.12.1944 he became commander of the Ergänzungsgruppe/LG1. The losses of the Ju 88 also affected Czekay personally. During one raid, the machine under his command is attacked and severely damaged by a British night fighter. Nevertheless, he caught the heavily damaged junker safely behind the front and made an emergency landing at the airport in Brussels.
On November 1, 1944, he was promoted to Major. In 1945 (III.45 - V.45) Geschwaderkommodorem Lehrgeschwader 1.


On March 5, 1945, the LG1 unit led by him was located near Treuenbrietzen (Germany), April 22 in Schwerin, and on May 30, 1945, its Ju 88 flew to Schleswig. 8.5. 1945 - Surrender. In total, he made more than 500 combat flights.
